The Little Christmas Rooster

On the very first Noelle

in a stable

snug and warm

lay a little sleeping Rooster

while a baby boy was born

Our Rooster dreamed of sunrise

and his calls to start the day

unaware of those around him

and a manger

waiting

filled with hay

He missed out on all the angels

and shepherds

and their sheep

He slept through the birth of Jesus Christ

because his dreamings

were so deep

But when the dawn

as for every day

gave sunbeams gentle glow

and began to fill his stable home

before he began

his morning crow

He saw

straight-way

a something new

a miraculous-wonderful sight

the tiny newborn Jesus Christ

had been born

within the night

And with that vision!

He knew his mission!

on this new and special morn

was to awaken all the sleeping folks

to this new and hopeful dawn

The first day

of days of peace

The first day

of light and love

Oh!!!!

this ole shabby little Rooster felt

as treasured

as Noah’s dove

Our Savior’s here! He’s lying there!

He’s come for me, and you!

His little Rooster heart proclaimed

As he let out his

Cock-a-doodle-do!

And so every year,

around Christmastime

when we hear the Rooster’s call

we’re reminded of that very, very first

Christmas Day

and the Greatest Gift

given

to one and all
