Christmas Tree at Shelby Farms

 

They’re putting up a Christmas Tree

Out here at Shelby Park

There’s a crane, and men, and wireframe

To make this tree that has no bark

 

And I wonder if this Christmas Tree

Will shine on throughout the night?

Will it remind the people at the park

Of when the earth received The Light?

 

Do people think of a cold dark night

Of shepherds, and of kings?

Of angels singing in the sky?

Do they still know about those things?

 

Or does this tree mean giving presents

Going out, and having fun?

And spending all your money?

And needing to visit everyone?

 

This Christmas Tree without no bark

Without its pines, un-coned

This tree that has never known a life

Marks the life for sins atoned 

 

Does such a tree inspire a thought?

Does it bring you Christmas cheer?

Does it inspire your heart to joy and love?

Love enough,

to last throughout the year?

 

Yeah

Around the world these trees go up

And the people walk on by

And I wonder whether all these trees

still inspire

“it’s Christmastime, but why?”
